Raastawala had its humble beginnings at a farmers’ market in Chartham, Kent. Ten years later, it is a seven-day operation and a roaring success, boasting an envious fan following of Londoners looking for a taste of Kolkata street food, and celebrity patrons like singer-songwriter Jessie Ware and the England Cricket Team. Many recipes on the menu have been handed down a few generations from Rinku’s father’s family who owned a very popular Indian restaurant in Kolkata in the Sixties. Her family recipe of coriander and chilli chutney even received 3 stars from the Great Taste Awards in 2018.
